The 55th Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade starts at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2026. For anyone with a boat tied up on the New River, the start time that matters is 2:30 p.m. That's when Winterfest's 2026 notice closes the river to non-parade vessels from the fork near Little Florida, west of Cooley's Landing, east to Marker 9. The Intracoastal closes from Port Everglades to just south of the Oakland Park Bridge at 4:50 p.m., and from north of Oakland Park up to Lake Santa Barbara at 5:50 p.m. The last road bridge on the list, Commercial Boulevard, is scheduled to stay closed to cars until about 11:00 p.m.
So the parade doesn't hit the whole city at once. It works through it over roughly eight and a half hours, starting downriver and ending at the north end, and where your dock sits decides which part of that evening affects you.
The River Closes First, and It's Where the Parade Begins
This year's route is the same as 2025's. Boats stage on the New River, head east to the Intracoastal Waterway, then turn north for about 12 miles to Lake Santa Barbara in Pompano Beach. The 6:00 p.m. start isn't new either. Winterfest billed it as "New for 2025," 30 minutes earlier than the start time before it, and kept it for 2026. A non-motorized pre-show begins at 5:30 p.m.
The 2:30 p.m. river closure comes three and a half hours before the first boat moves, because the river doubles as the staging area. Parade entrants have to finish final staging and roll call by 4:30 p.m., according to the 2026 parade application. Once the New River fills with decorated boats waiting in line, nobody else can get through, so if you're on the river and want to be somewhere else on the water that night, you have to leave early in the afternoon.
The theme sets the tone on those decks. Winterfest announced "Party in the U.S.A." for 2026 and is calling the parade Fort Lauderdale's America250 grand finale. Country duo LOCASH, Preston Brust and Chris Lucas, are the celebrity Grand Marshal. They'll be honored at an invitation-only reception at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on December 11 and will lead the parade the next night aboard the Grand Marshal Showboat, presented by Fifth Third Bank. Miss Florida USA 2026 Aileen Cerchiara is a special guest.
The One Bridge Without a Settled Schedule
The New River crossings close to cars together. Winterfest lists the 7th Avenue, Andrews Avenue and Third Avenue bridges and the FEC Railroad Bridge at about 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The rail bridge has a second time attached to it. Winterfest's bridge page says Winterfest's Coast Guard permit has the FEC train bridge opening to parade traffic at 6:30 p.m.:
"Brightline and FEC are working with Winterfest to secure an earlier schedule for staging."
Winterfest's bridge page from late August is the latest public word on it. Until an updated schedule is posted, plan around the 6:30 p.m. permit time for the rail bridge. That also means boats staged west of the bridge can't move through it until half an hour after the parade's official start.
How the Closures Move North
After the parade leaves the river, the closures move up the Intracoastal one bridge at a time. These are Winterfest's 2026 times for closures to car traffic, and Winterfest marks all of them as approximate.
| Bridge | Closes to cars | Reopens | Hours closed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7th Avenue, Andrews Avenue, Third Avenue | 5:30 p.m. | 8:00 p.m. | 2.5 |
| FEC Railroad | 5:30 p.m. | 8:00 p.m. | 2.5 |
| Las Olas Boulevard | 6:30 p.m. | 8:30 p.m. | 2 |
| Sunrise Boulevard | 7:00 p.m. | 9:00 p.m. | 2 |
| Oakland Park Boulevard | 7:30 p.m. | 9:30 p.m. | 2 |
| Commercial Boulevard | 8:00 p.m. | 11:00 p.m. | 3 |
Each Intracoastal closure starts about 30 minutes after the one to its south. That gives you a rough way to estimate when the parade will pass your stretch. Winterfest expects it to reach the Las Olas viewing area at about 6:30 p.m., the same time the Las Olas bridge closes. Someone on a Coral Ridge canal near Oakland Park is looking at about 7:30. North of Commercial, the parade arrives later still, and the Commercial Boulevard bridge is scheduled to stay closed to cars for three hours, longer than any other bridge on the list.
These windows matter for getting home. If you're watching from a restaurant south of Sunrise and live on the barrier island, you may hit two bridges that are each closed on a different schedule.
Before and after the parade, the drawbridges go back to their usual schedules, which helps if you're bringing a boat back afterward. The 7th Avenue, Andrews Avenue and Third Avenue bridges open on demand. Las Olas and Oakland Park open at a quarter past and a quarter to the hour. Sunrise and the SE 17th Street Causeway open on the hour and half hour. Commercial opens on the hour and at 20 and 40 minutes past.
Where to Watch, Sorted by Stretch
The best spot is the one the parade reaches at a time that works for your evening. Winterfest's "On Parade Route" list for 2026 includes places all along the route.
New River, first look at the boats. Riverside Hotel at 620 E Las Olas Blvd. and Boathouse at the Riverside at 620 SE 4th St. both overlook the river. On its Ways to Watch page, Winterfest names Riverside Hotel, along with the bridges, as one of its other live viewing spots. Close by is a VIP Viewing Party at Tunnel Top Park and Stranahan House, 335 SE 6th Ave., from 5:15 to 8:30 p.m. on parade night. Winterfest says it will add fuller 2026 details later. Last year the party was for sponsors and invited guests only.
Las Olas and the Intracoastal, around 6:30 p.m. The ticketed Parade Viewing Area is at Las Olas Intracoastal Promenade Park, 80 Las Olas Circle, on the southeast corner of Las Olas Boulevard and the Intracoastal. Nicklaus Children's Health System sponsors it. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. and seating is provided. Winterfest lists tickets at $40 for adults and $30 for children 12 and under, and children 3 and under get in free. Those are base prices. EventHub's checkout shows $43.80 per adult and $33.18 per child with fees, plus a first-come preferred area for $65.04.
Seabreeze Boulevard. Just south of the viewing area, Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale at 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Coconuts at 429 Seabreeze Blvd. and the Courtyard by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Beach at 440 Seabreeze Blvd. are all on the Intracoastal.
Sunrise Boulevard, around 7:00 p.m. GALLERYone, a DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel, at 2670 E Sunrise Blvd.
NE 32nd Avenue near Oakland Park, around 7:30 p.m. This short stretch has more on-route listings than anywhere else: Mastro's Ocean Club at 3000, Grateful Palate at 3003, Shooters Waterfront at 3033, Bokampers Sports Bar and Grill at 3115, and the Residence Inn with the Oria Restaurant at 3333. If you're here, you can eat dinner while the parade is still on the river, and you'll be on the Oakland Park side of the closures.
Commercial Boulevard, 8:00 p.m. and later. Kaluz Restaurant at 3300 E Commercial Blvd., Benihana at 276 E Commercial Blvd. and Blue Moon Fish Co. at 4505 W Tradewinds Ave. in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. These spots see the parade last, near the bridge with the longest scheduled closure.
Entering Your Own Boat
If you'd rather be in the parade, Winterfest takes applications online. The 2026 parade application lists the following:
- Entry fees of $35 for private, nonprofit and government vessels, $250 to $1,000 for commercial boats depending on size, $500 to $1,500 for charter boats and $8,000 for showboats
- Vessels under 20 feet go in the 5:30 p.m. pre-show
- Coast Guard certification, proof of insurance and one person monitoring VHF radio for the whole parade
- Final staging and roll call by 4:30 p.m.
- A second application for decorations and TV commentary once an entry is approved
Winterfest's main parade page says fees start "from $30," while the application starts at $35. Go by the application. If you don't have a boat, Winterfest says it has charter vessels you can decorate. Questions go to 954-767-0686 or [email protected]. This is general information, not legal or insurance advice. Check your vessel's coverage and certification with your own insurer and Winterfest before you apply.
The Rest of the Calendar
Winterfest also has events before parade night. Family Fun Day is Sunday, November 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Esplanade Park. It's free, Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital is the title sponsor, Publix is the presenting sponsor, and a Highland Cows petting zoo is new this year. The 2026 poster by artist Charles Fazzino will be revealed November 19. The Black Tie Ball is December 5 from 6:00 p.m. to midnight at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Broward Health is presenting sponsor, the 16-piece Jordan Kahn Music Company orchestra will play, and tables run $4,000 to $6,000.
At Team Van Zyl, we look at waterfront homes the way a captain plans a run, with bridge schedules, closure windows and how long it takes to get to open water. If you'd like to know what your dock and its location on the water are worth, ask us for a home value.
